The situation in Ukraine’s energy system has become significantly more complicated: the reason has been named

This morning, emergency power outages were forced in most regions of Ukraine due to a significant complication of the situation in the power system. The reason was the consequences of massive missile and drone attacks and the emergency failure of several generation facilities.

This was reported by NPC Ukrenergo.

Ukrenergo explained that the main reason for the forced outages is damage to power plants and substations of electricity transmission and distribution systems due to massive attacks, after which the power system is still recovering.

“This morning the situation became more complicated, because several generation facilities, unfortunately, went into emergency repair,” said NPC Ukrenergo.

The company noted that the equipment is operating at the limit of its capabilities due to previous damage, and the surviving power units are experiencing significant overload, requiring their shutdown for repair work.

“In order to maintain the balance in the power system and prevent uncontrolled power outages, dispatchers had to resort to emergency measures and apply emergency shutdowns,” Ukrenergo reported.

Energy experts emphasized that repair crews are already working to restore damaged facilities and return generating capacity to the grid.

“We expect that restoration work at individual facilities will be completed in the near future, which will allow us to cancel emergency restrictions and return to planned hourly outage schedules in most regions,” Ukrenergo NPC noted.

The company also urged consumers to be understanding of the situation and use electricity as rationally as possible.

By the way, the European Union is sending almost 450 emergency generators from strategic reserves to Ukraine amid massive Russian attacks on energy infrastructure.

As previously reported, after massive strikes on the energy sector and against the backdrop of frost, Kyiv is experiencing one of the most difficult winters in recent years: thousands of homes are without heat, and power outages remain unstable and difficult to predict.

Let us remind you that on the night of January 23 , utility services and energy companies restored heat supply to over 650 residential buildings in Kyiv.
