Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Russia is not winning the war against Ukraine and its army is currently in a weak position. He also expressed his readiness to participate in talks between US President Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin in Budapest, which could contribute to a fair and lasting peace settlement.

This is reported by NBC News .

Zelenskyy emphasized that since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, Russia has occupied only one percent of Ukraine’s territory, for which it has paid with heavy losses: about one million three hundred thousand soldiers.

“We are not losing this war, and Putin is not winning. I think his army is in a weak position right now,” he said.

The Ukrainian president also noted the increase in Russian air attacks since the beginning of this year. He attributed this to an increase in Russia’s own production, assistance from North Korea, deliveries of machine tools from China, and drone licenses from Iran.

“All this says that he does not want to stop this war,” Zelensky added.

Journalists noted that Zelensky stressed the importance of putting more pressure on Putin than on the Hamas group to end the war in the Middle East.

“Yes, and even more, because Putin is something similar, but stronger, than Hamas,” the president noted.

Regarding the meeting in Budapest, Zelenskyy said he was ready to participate.

“I told the president: I’m ready,” he emphasized, noting that without Ukraine’s participation, any agreements would be incomplete.

As is known, US President Donald Trump announced on September 16 that he would meet with the Kremlin leader in Hungary , without specifying the date. According to him, the purpose of the summit is to discuss possible ways to end the war between Russia and Ukraine. This will be preceded by a meeting of high-level advisers. Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban offered himself as a mediator during the negotiations.

In addition, Zelensky noted that Tomahawk cruise missiles are a very sensitive topic for the Kremlin.

“I think Putin is afraid that the United States will give us Tomahawks. This could put pressure on Russia and push Putin to negotiate,” he explained.

The results of the meeting between Trump and Zelensky were previously reported. The leaders discussed security guarantees for Ukraine, the supply of weapons, including Tomahawk missiles, and the prospects for ending the war.

Journalists noted that the Ukrainian president emphasizes the importance of using diplomatic and military leverage to preserve Ukraine’s positions and ensure conditions for a peaceful settlement.

By the way, US President Donald Trump met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at the White House to discuss ways to end Russia’s war against Ukraine. Journalists have published five key conclusions from the talks.
