Ukrainians have started hearing a new, unsettling sound in the night sky — the jet-powered Shahed kamikaze drones Russia has recently deployed. This move is a direct response to the successes of Ukrainian anti-aircraft defenses. While the attacks remain limited so far, the introduction of this new drone type could significantly alter the aerial threat landscape in the coming months.

This was reported by a specialist in the field of electronic warfare and radio-electronic intelligence, Serhiy “Flash” Beskrestnov.

According to him, the new “Shaheds” differ from the traditional versions by their distinctive sound — instead of the loud rumble heard before, there is now a high-pitched hum typical of jet engines. Ukrainians heard this sound for the first time on two consecutive nights, indicating either testing or the initial deployment of this new drone modification in combat.

The expert suggests that the jet-powered drones are Russia’s response to the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ new tactic: the large-scale use of anti-aircraft drones to intercept Shaheds during their approach. Jet drones likely have higher speeds, reducing the time available for detection and destruction.

It is currently unknown how many of these drones Russia possesses or whether it can deploy them effectively. However, their use signals that the enemy is adapting to Ukrainian air defenses and searching for ways to breach them.

Beskrestnov emphasized that the situation requires close monitoring, especially by air defense and intelligence units. The jet-powered Shaheds represent a new, dynamic threat that cannot be ignored.

Earlier, military observer Denis Popovych reported that Russia is already modernizing its Shaheds to better evade Ukrainian interceptor drones and also explained effective methods to shoot down these jet-powered Shaheds.

It is known that Russian Shahed drones began to perform complex maneuvers in flight to avoid being hit by Ukrainian interceptor drones.

Recall that the Russian troops may soon begin using updated “Shaheds”, which are capable of real-time control. Instead of a preset flight path, there is manual control and coordination between several aircraft in the air.

By the way, a large-scale project “Clean Sky” is being implemented in Kyiv, aimed at protecting the city’s airspace from Shaped-type unmanned aerial vehicles using Ukrainian interceptor drones.

Meanwhile, the Russian Alabuga Special Economic Zone in Tatarstan has begun mass production of Geran-2 kamikaze drones , which are similar to the Iranian Shahed-136, which are regularly used in strikes on Ukraine. Even underage girls from the Alabuga Polytechnic school, some as young as 16, are being involved in assembling these drones.
