The State Bureau of Investigation detained a military man who was selling travel itineraries to Moldova.
The State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) has detained a serviceman suspected of organizing a scheme to illegally smuggle men of military age abroad. According to investigators, he offered to travel to Moldova or the unrecognized Transnistria for money.
This was reported by the State Bureau of Investigation.
According to law enforcement, the scheme was organized in May 2026. The cost of the “services” depended on the route. For $15,000, the suspect promised to help cross the border through an official checkpoint and reach Chisinau. For $8,000, he offered illegal crossing outside the checkpoints towards Transnistria.
“For the trip, clients were recommended to prepare documents, a supply of food, water, and nutrition in advance,” the SBI said.
According to the investigation, on June 18, law enforcement officers detained the organizer after receiving the second tranche of funds for illegally smuggling men across the border.
“He was informed of suspicion of organizing the illegal smuggling of people across the state border of Ukraine,” the bureau noted.
The court chose a preventive measure for the suspect in the form of detention with the possibility of posting bail in the amount of 2 million hryvnias.
The sanction of the article provides for up to nine years in prison. Law enforcement officers are identifying other possible participants in the scheme and checking the involvement of the person involved in other episodes.
