The State Bureau of Investigation exposed a former judge who was “giving away” the apartments of deceased Odessa residents

The State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) together with the Odessa Regional Prosecutor’s Office exposed a former judge and a couple of restaurateurs who organized a scheme to appropriate apartments of deceased Odessa residents without heirs. According to the law, such apartments were supposed to go to the city, but the perpetrators drew up fictitious contracts and obtained ownership through the court.

This was reported by the State Bureau of Investigation.

Investigators found that the couple learned about the deceased owners of the home and made fake purchase and sale agreements dated in previous years. The former judge, who at that time was acting as the head of the district court, knowing about the falsity of the documents and the absence of the parties at the meetings, made decisions in their favor. Under this scheme, the fraudsters illegally re-registered three apartments in Odessa with a total value of almost 3 million UAH.

The property was seized to prevent its further sale. The former judge was dismissed by a decision of the High Council of Justice and reported on suspicion of official forgery and aiding and abetting fraud. The couple is suspected of fraud, forgery of documents and legalization of property. Some of them are already defendants in another case regarding the appropriation of six apartments.

The Prosecutor’s Office and the State Bureau of Investigation are preparing a motion for preventive measures. The articles carry sanctions of up to 8 years in prison.

As previously reported, the State Bureau of Investigation, together with the Security Service of Ukraine, the State Border Guard Service of the National Police, and the State Border Guard Service, exposed a criminal group that organized the illegal transfer of military personnel across the state border and facilitated the desertion of military personnel for monetary reward.

As a reminder, the people’s deputies of the European Solidarity faction are initiating the restoration of competitive selection for positions in the prosecutor’s office system , which was canceled as a result of the adoption of the scandalous bill 12414.
