The state is higher than ratings: Poroshenko calls on Zelensky to meet with the democratic opposition

The President should urgently hold a meeting with the democratic opposition , with the participation of the government and parliamentary leadership .

This was stated by the fifth President of Ukraine, Petro Poroshenko , in his video address .

According to Poroshenko, Ukraine is going through an extremely difficult moment in its history, when several crises have simultaneously overwhelmed the country . In these conditions, in his opinion, it is necessary to form a coalition and a government of national unity.

He noted that one of the main problems is the security situation. According to the politician, the war in the Middle East has changed the global agenda and is distracting the world’s attention from Ukraine.

“ Along with attention, resources are also flowing into that region : weapons and finances. Negotiations on the peace format and security guarantees for Ukraine have actually been put on hold,” Poroshenko said .

He also stated that against this background , Russia benefits from rising energy prices .

Poroshenko called the halt in European integration reforms another crisis . According to him , Ukraine had previously agreed with European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos on a plan of ten steps necessary to advance towards EU membership .

Among them are the reboot of the State Bureau of Investigation, the adoption of an anti-corruption strategy, the expansion of the powers of the NABU and the SAPO, ensuring the independence of the courts , and the cleansing of the High Council of Justice.

“ More than a hundred days have passed . Not a single point has been fulfilled ,” the politician emphasized .

Separately, Poroshenko declared a parliamentary crisis, noting that the coalition in the Verkhovna Rada actually does not exist.

In his opinion, the way out of the situation could be the formation of a new parliamentary majority and a coalition of national unity.

The politician also outlined three key areas of the future action program : security, social , and European integration.

He added that the European Solidarity faction is ready to support the necessary decisions in parliament, regardless of participation in the coalition. Poroshenko called for a meeting of the president with the leadership of the parliament, the government , and representatives of the democratic opposition in the near future.
