Danylo Hetmantsev, the head of the parliamentary committee on finance, tax and customs policy, said that Ukraine’s post-war reconstruction will cost at least $524 billion over the next decade. That’s almost three years of our country’s gross domestic product.
He wrote about this in Telegram .
Hetmantsev reminded that the reconstruction of Ukraine is not only a task for the future after peace is achieved, but also a process that is already underway. According to him, the authorities are working to find sources of financing and create the prerequisites for the post-war development of the economy.
He emphasized that one of the important directions is to stimulate the development of individual industries that can become the locomotives of the economy. An example is the development of a legislative framework for the introduction of a special regime of Defence City , which will significantly expand the capabilities of the defense-industrial complex of Ukraine.
Hetmantsev stressed that attracting large financial resources will be a key challenge in the reconstruction. According to the World Bank, as of December 2024, at least $524 billion is needed to restore the war-torn territories, infrastructure, and economy in general. To put that into perspective, this amount is almost three times Ukraine’s annual GDP.
He added that work on a post-war development strategy is already underway so that after peace is achieved, the country has all the prerequisites for rapid economic growth.
Earlier, the EU announced the signing of agreements for Ukraine for 2.3 billion euros in loan guarantees and grants. This will allow attracting up to 10 billion euros of investment in recovery.
Recall that Ukraine received 1 billion euros from the European Union from the proceeds of frozen Russian assets. These funds will be used for Ukraine’s stability and “rapid reconstruction.”
