The Sun is in a storm phase: Earth is covered by a strong magnetic storm

On Thursday, January 29, solar activity will be quite strong. A red-level magnetic storm with a K-index of 5 is expected on Earth.

This is evidenced by data from the Meteoagent portal and the British Geological Survey.

Scientists noted that the expected high-speed coronal hole flow arrived the previous morning with an increase in solar wind speed. This could lead to some geomagnetic conditions ranging from active to STORM G2. Thus, the magnetic storm could be of a strong nature.

Magnetic storms are disturbances in the Earth’s magnetic field that occur due to increased activity of the Sun. During flares and coronal ejections, streams of charged particles are thrown into space. Reaching the Earth, they interact with its magnetosphere and cause oscillations of varying intensity – from weak to extreme.

Most often, magnetic storms remain unnoticed, but during strong events their impact is felt not only in space, but also on the surface of the planet. Satellite navigation, radio communications and power systems may be disrupted, and bright auroras are observed in high latitudes.

Some people complain of headaches, fatigue, pressure drops, and sleep disturbances during magnetic storms. Weather-dependent people and people with cardiovascular diseases are considered particularly sensitive, although scientific evidence of a direct connection is still being studied.
