The Sun is preparing a surprise for the New Year: a powerful magnetic storm will cover the Earth

In the coming days, the geomagnetic situation on Earth will remain stable, but the beginning of 2026 may be marked by a noticeable increase in solar activity.
This was reported by the British Geological Survey.
Experts note that the speed of the solar wind is currently gradually decreasing as the influence of coronal holes weakens. At the same time, scientists do not rule out short-term periods of increased geomagnetic activity.
According to forecasts, between December 31 and January 1, the Earth will begin to be affected by a stream of fast solar wind formed in the coronal hole zone. In addition, the planet may experience a tangential impact from the coronal mass ejection recorded on December 28.
If these two phenomena coincide, a G2-level magnetic storm is expected, corresponding to a six on the geomagnetic scale. According to scientists, this is the storm that could begin in 2026.
G2-level magnetic storms are considered moderate and occur due to increased solar wind, most often after flares or plasma emissions on the Sun. They can cause minor disruptions in satellite systems, radio communications and navigation, as well as voltage fluctuations in power grids in northern latitudes. Weather-dependent people may experience a deterioration in well-being, including headaches, weakness and blood pressure drops.
