The Sun is unexpectedly increasing its activity: what will this lead to and is it dangerous for people?

The Sun has suddenly begun to increase its activity, which could lead to powerful magnetic storms, the Daily Mail reported .

NASA reported that the star had been fading for about 20 years, but that all changed in 2008 when the solar wind intensified, increasing its speed, density, temperature, and magnetic field strength.

Such increased activity can cause powerful magnetic storms that will damage the power grid, cause power outages, interfere with satellites, and disrupt communication systems.

It is noted that it is difficult to predict the exact timing and strength of the storms, but they may become more frequent as the Sun’s current 11-year cycle peaks between 2025 and 2026.

“All signs pointed to the Sun entering a prolonged phase of low activity. So it was a surprise to see that trend reverse. The Sun is slowly waking up,” said study author Jamie Jasinski of NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in California.

In addition, more activity means more sunspots, flares and potentially dangerous emissions. For Earth’s inhabitants, this will be a tangible blow, as it will reduce the magnetosphere, the protective magnetic bubble around the planet, exposing it to more solar particles.

At the same time, solar particles can affect the ozone layer and increase ultraviolet radiation, which is dangerous for humans.
