North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has been re-elected as chairman of the State Affairs Commission. The decision was made after the first session of the Supreme People’s Assembly, but Kim Yo-jong was not included in the body.
This is reported by Reuters .
The re-election took place after a meeting of the Supreme People’s Assembly, which formally approves state policy and decisions of the ruling Labor Party.
At the same time, the leader’s sister Kim Yo Jong, who has worked as part of the State Commission since 2021, was not included in the list of members of the body this time.
The South Korean Ministry of Unification said that they were investigating the reasons for her absence from the commission.
“Her absence does not indicate a decline in status, but a strategic division of roles,” said Lim Il-cheol, a professor at Kyungnam University.
According to him, Kim Yo Jong continues to play an important role as a department director in the Workers’ Party, where she can participate in policy coordination.
As noted, the Supreme People’s Assembly is usually held after party congresses to implement party decisions into legislation.
It is expected that the meetings in Pyongyang will discuss amendments to the socialist constitution, as well as issues of personnel appointments in state bodies.
“Attention is focused on whether Pyongyang will revise its constitution to enshrine a policy toward South Korea based on the concept of ‘two enemy states,’” the report said.
It is also planned to consider the country’s five-year economic plan.
Recall that in Pyongyang, delegates to the 9th Congress of the Workers’ Party of Korea re-elected the leader of the party and country, Kim Jong-un, as General Secretary for the next 5-year period . The decision was made unanimously.
