British Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced an agreement with the European Union that will allow British defense companies access to contracts to support Ukraine.

This was reported by the British government and the European Union.

Keir Starmer made the announcement upon his arrival in Paris for a meeting of the “Coalition of the Resolute.” He said the agreement would help strengthen Ukraine’s defense capabilities and support the British economy and job creation.

The agreement was the result of negotiations between the UK and the EU. It was first announced at the European Political Community summit in Armenia in May.

In addition, British defence companies will now be able to bid for tenders to be funded by the EU’s €90 billion loan programme.

The UK government stressed that this would help attract billions of dollars in investment and strengthen the country’s defence industrial base.

“Working with our European allies, we are strengthening support for Ukraine and increasing pressure on Russia. Together, we are sending a clear signal: we will stand united against Russian aggression and continue to defend Europe’s security,” Starmer said.

It is also reported that the UK will make a proportional financial contribution, linked to borrowings corresponding to the value of contracts concluded with British defence companies.

In a joint statement, the UK and the EU stressed that this agreement demonstrates their shared commitment to supporting Ukraine and deepening cooperation between their defence industries.

In addition, the parties noted that the defence capabilities of the UK and the EU are interrelated, and their further coordination will contribute to strengthening European security.

It was previously reported that the British Armed Forces announced the creation of a new Unmanned Systems Task Force as part of a major military overhaul . The government plans to allocate £5 billion to the program’s development to accelerate the integration of drones across all branches of the armed forces.
