Ukrainian Flag Removed in Kosovo’s Capital, Sparking Questions Over Motive

Pristina has removed the Ukrainian flag from a city building following Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s visit to Serbia, with Mayor Perparim Rama saying that Kosovo must be respected.

The mayor of Pristina, Perparim Rama, announced this.

Rama posted a video showing the removal of a Ukrainian flag from a building in the Kosovo capital. The mayor of Pristina said the city’s reaction was due to the need to respect Kosovo.

“When Kosovo is not respected, the capital Pristina always reacts the same way. Our compassion and solidarity will always be on the side of the people facing war, violence, and persecution. After all, we, better than many others, know what it means to fight for freedom, dignity, and the right to exist as a state,” Rama wrote.

At the same time, the official emphasized that no case and no policy can be based on the humiliation of Kosovo’s statehood and the victims of its people.

The removal of the Ukrainian flag took place against the backdrop of Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s visit to Serbia, which, according to the information provided, caused a sharp reaction in Kosovo.

Recall that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky arrived in Serbia on August 7, making his first visit to the country during his presidency. During the trip, he plans to discuss economic cooperation, relations with the EU, and security issues with the Serbian leadership.

Subsequently, it became known that Serbia would provide Ukraine with a new package of humanitarian assistance, which concerns the medical and energy sectors.
