In 2026, the United Nations Development Program will additionally allocate about 230 million US dollars for the urgent purchase of energy equipment for Ukraine.
This was reported by the Permanent Mission of Ukraine to the UN.
“January 2026 was the most devastating for the domestic energy sector, which was subjected to the most massive missile attacks from Russia since the beginning of the full-scale invasion. As a result of these barbaric attacks, millions of Ukrainians are forced to survive without electricity, heat, and water,” the post says.
Permanent Representative of Ukraine Andriy Melnyk held personal meetings with the newly appointed Administrator of the United Nations Development Program, Alexander De Croo, and the UNDP Regional Director for Europe, Ivana Zhyvkovych, handing them lists of the most urgent needs for the restoration of energy facilities in Ukraine and calling for urgent decisions to accelerate this assistance.
This involves the supply and installation of powerful cogeneration units, gas turbine equipment, transformers, compressor stations, modular boiler houses and other critically important equipment for Zaporizhia, Kyiv, Odessa, Mykolaiv, Kharkiv, Chernihiv, Kremenchuk, Lviv, Lutsk, Shostka and other Ukrainian cities.
“Among the largest projects, one can highlight the installation of a 54 MW gas turbine plant at the Kremenchuk CHP (24 million USD), cogeneration plants for Kyiv for 25 MW (20 million USD), Odessa 40 MW (20 million), Zaporizhia 16.2 MW and 20 MW (8 million), Mykolaiv 9.8 MW (5.5 million USD) and other projects that enhance the energy sustainability of Ukrainian cities,” the organization noted.
In total, as of the beginning of 2026, UNDP has already purchased energy equipment with a total capacity of 572.3 MW.
As a reminder, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres warned member states about the threat of imminent financial collapse of the United Nations.
