Negotiations between the Ukrainian and American delegations in Florida did not provide an answer to the main question – what security guarantees Ukraine will receive.
This is reported by The Wall Street Journal , citing its sources.
Journalists write that the key topic remains Russian territorial claims. Moscow continues to demand international recognition of the occupied territories and wants a separate decision on the future status of these regions. The WSJ notes that the parties also did not budge on the issue of American and Western security guarantees for Ukraine. The publication adds that the Kremlin may continue to press for recognition of the occupied territories.
The meeting in Florida was supposed to bring about a compromise and give momentum to the peace process, but political and security issues remained open.
As previously reported, a meeting between the Ukrainian delegation and the American side on achieving a dignified peace has begun in the United States .
As a reminder, Russian dictator Vladimir Putin plans to meet with US President’s special envoy Steve Witkoff before a state visit to India.
