The US approved the sale of equipment for M109 self-propelled guns and air defense to Ukraine for $330 million

The US State Department has decided to sell equipment for M109 self-propelled howitzers and air defense systems to Ukraine for $330 million.

This was reported by the US Defense and Security Cooperation Agency.

“The State Department has approved the possible sale to the Government of Ukraine of military maintenance, repair, and overhaul equipment for M109 self-propelled howitzers and related equipment valued at approximately $150 million,” the statement said.

It is noted that Ukraine has requested the acquisition of:

• equipment and services for the modernization of the M109 SUA;
• technical assistance;
• staff training and training equipment.

The US State Department also decided to sell Ukraine air defense support equipment and related equipment worth approximately $180 million.

The United States will provide Ukraine with:

• modifications and maintenance;
• spare parts;
• consumables and accessories;
• repair and return support;
• personnel training and training equipment;
• engineering, technical and logistical services to the US government and contractors;
• and other related logistics and program support elements.

“The proposed sale will enhance Ukraine’s ability to counter current and future threats by further equipping it to conduct self-defense and regional security missions,” the US State Department said.

Earlier it became known that the US State Department approved two new military aid packages for Ukraine. One of them concerns HAWK air defense systems, the other – the restoration of Bradley infantry fighting vehicles . The total cost of both packages exceeds $320 million.

As a reminder, the United States of America has resumed supplies of 155 mm artillery shells and GMLRS precision-guided rockets to Ukraine, which were suspended the day before.
