Leaders of both houses of the United States Congress have agreed on the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA).
The Hill reports this.
The document contains a section entitled “Expansion and Modification of the Defense Assistance Initiative for Ukraine,” which provides for the allocation of an additional $400 million for 2026 and another $400 million for 2027.
The total US defense budget for 2026 will be $901 billion, while President Donald Trump previously proposed $892.6 billion.
The bill also requires an assessment of Russia’s military strategy, objectives, and deployment of forces influencing countries in the Indo-Pacific region, particularly China. It specifically calls for an analysis of the scope of cooperation between China, Russia, Iran, and North Korea in the diplomatic, information, military, and economic spheres.
According to The Hill, the House of Representatives may vote on the NDAA in the near future.
International media note that the previous draft peace proposal, announced by the US in November, envisaged a reduction in American military aid to Ukraine, which is key to its continued defense against Russian aggression.
It was previously reportedthat the United States attempted to persuade EU countries not to use frozen Russian assets for a reparations loan to Ukraine.
