House Democrat Yassamine Ansari said she plans to initiate a resolution to impeach Secretary of War Pete Hegseth, citing his actions during the US military operation against Iran.

This is reported by Axios.

“Hegset is taking reckless steps that endanger the lives of American soldiers, and has also repeatedly violated military regulations. For this, he should be removed from office and impeached,” Ansari said.

In addition, the Democratic Party representative called for the use of the 25th Amendment to the Constitution to remove President Donald Trump for his “reckless statements” about war.

“The 25th Amendment was created for a reason, and the Cabinet must implement it. The safety of American troops, the lives of the Iranian people, and the stability of our world system depend on it,” she emphasized.

Ansari’s remarks come amid criticism of Hegsett following the resignations of Homeland Security Secretary Christie Noem and Attorney General Pam Bondi. Polls show that Hegsett’s popularity among members of the Trump administration is low, and the rising costs of the conflict with Iran are further undermining his reputation.

At the same time, according to the publication, Ansari’s initiative is unlikely to have any real success: Republicans control Congress, and a two-thirds vote is required to convict an official through impeachment in the Senate. There is also little chance that the Trump administration will invoke the 25th Amendment.

This is not the first attempt to impeach the Minister of War: previously, a similar initiative was put forward by Congressman Shri Thanedar, but it never reached a vote.

Recall, US President Donald Trump confirmed that the United States has launched a military campaign in Iran.
