The US fully supported the European initiative on a “repatriation loan”

The United States of America supported the initiative of European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen to use Russian frozen assets to support Ukraine.

This was reported by Reuters.

According to the interlocutor, Washington fully supports the European Union and the actions that officials are taking to be able to use these assets as a tool.

The European offer for funds is currently being held back by concerns in Belgium, where most of the frozen assets are located.

In total, since the start of the full-scale invasion, the US and its allies have banned transactions with the Russian central bank and finance ministry, resulting in the freezing of around $300 billion in sovereign Russian assets.

In addition, the US increased economic pressure on Russia last month when it imposed sanctions on Rosneft and Lukoil.

“There are a few more things we could do to try to increase the pressure,” the source added.

Recall that the European Union is preparing to provide Ukraine with a “reparation loan” , the amount of which could reach 130 billion euros.

As is known, the EC is studying the possibility of expanding the sources of financing for the so-called “reparation loan” for Ukraine – in addition to the assets of the Russian Central Bank, private funds of sanctioned Russians placed in European banks may also be involved.

By the way, a dispute has already arisen within the EU regarding the “repatriation loan” – Paris and Berlin want these funds to be used only for the purchase of weapons produced in Europe.
