The US has approved a defense budget: $500 million is allocated for Ukraine

The US Senate Armed Services Committee has approved $500 million in aid to Ukraine as part of the defense budget bill for fiscal year 2026.

This was reported by Reuters.

The relevant bill was passed on July 9 with 26 votes in favor and 1 against. It provides for the extension of the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative until 2028. At the same time, it is proposed to increase funding in 2025 from $300 million to $500 million.

It is noted that the project will go through the legislative process in the coming months.

Recall that earlier, the Appropriations Committee of the House of Representatives of the United States Congress approved its version of the defense spending bill for fiscal year 2026, which does not provide for assistance to Ukraine.
