US Republican Senator Lindsey Graham has proposed transferring Tomahawk cruise missiles to Ukraine if the Kremlin rejects the peace deal.
He said this on NBC News, Ukrinform reports .
According to him, the US is trying to bring Russian President Vladimir Putin to the negotiating table, however, the Kremlin leader is rejecting all efforts.
The senator expressed hope that if Putin refuses the deal this time, US leader Donald Trump will sign a bill on high duties for countries that buy Russian oil, recognize Russia as a state sponsor of terrorism for kidnapping Ukrainian children, and detain ships transporting sanctioned oil, following the example of Venezuela.
“If Putin says ‘no,’ we need to fundamentally change the game plan, including giving Ukraine Tomahawk missiles so they can hit missile and drone factories in Russia. I would go all in if Putin says ‘no,’” Graham said.
He added that the peace agreement should be such as to make it impossible for Russia to invade the territory of Ukraine for the third time.
“I want European troops on the ground (in Ukraine – ed.) so that there is no third invasion. I want us to provide Ukraine with security guarantees so that there is no third invasion,” the official noted.
Graham believes that the Russians will try to occupy the Donetsk region until the United States increases pressure.
It was previously reported that Ukraine and the United States plan to hold a new round of negotiations as part of the preparation of a potential peace agreement.
By the way, the Trump administration is increasing pressure on Ukraine during negotiations to resolve the war , seeking to conclude an agreement by the end of the year.
