The Trump administration is delaying approval for the transfer of Patriot interceptor missiles to Ukraine, which are needed to protect against Russian missile attacks. US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has not yet approved the necessary permits, although he has not officially denied the delivery.

This was reported by The Washington Post, citing an American official and three other interlocutors.

According to the publication, at least some of the Patriot missiles are coming to Ukraine from other countries. However, their transfer requires US permission, as these systems and missiles are manufactured in America, and the terms of export agreements require Washington to approve the re-export of weapons to third countries.

WP interlocutors noted that Hegset has not officially rejected the transfer of missiles to Ukraine, but has not yet completed the necessary procedures for its approval.

At the same time, according to the publication’s sources, the head of the Pentagon continues to coordinate some other types of American military assistance to Ukraine.

As a reminder, Ukraine has exhausted its reserves of interceptor missiles for American Patriot anti-aircraft missile systems , making it more vulnerable to Russian ballistic strikes.

By the way, Spain and Greece have significant stocks of Patriot interceptor missiles, the shelf life of which will soon expire. However, the countries are in no hurry to transfer them to Ukraine, despite the intensification of Russian attacks.
