The United States partially lifted sanctions on Belarusian state structures after the release of political prisoners by the regime of Alexander Lukashenko.
This was reported by the US Treasury Department.
The Office for Foreign Assets Control has removed the company “Belaruskaliy”, the Belarusian Potash Company, and LLC “Agrorozkvit” from the sanctions list.
In addition, the American side allowed transactions with Belinvestbank and its subsidiaries, and also lifted restrictions on the Ministry of Finance of Belarus and the Development Bank.
The potash industry is key to the Belarusian economy, as fertilizers remain one of the country’s main export commodities.
After the introduction of sanctions in 2021, Minsk reoriented its potassium exports through Russia, which increased economic dependence on the Kremlin.
According to the American side, the basis for easing sanctions was the release of about 250 political prisoners.
As previously reported, the Lithuanian parliament has supported the extension of national sanctions against Russia and Belarus. The restrictions will be in effect until the end of 2027 .
