US Presidential Special Representative Steve Witkoff expressed his belief that a peace agreement between Ukraine and Russia can be reached before the end of this year or even earlier.
He stated this in an interview with Fox News.
In the conversation, the journalist asked whether an option was being considered in which Ukraine would cede territories it controls as part of a potential peaceful settlement.
In response, Witkoff emphasized that, according to Donald Trump, only Ukrainians can make such decisions, and the situation is much more complicated than simply “giving away land.”
“Ukrainians must clearly understand what security guarantees are being offered to them. They must be confident that such a war will not happen again,” said a Trump spokesman.
According to him, to achieve a result, “a number of important issues need to be resolved,” and he does not rule out that this could happen by the end of the year or even earlier.
“Our technical teams are working on this. We hope that we will be able to create the conditions for concluding a peace agreement in the coming months,” said Witkoff.
He also repeated a thesis repeatedly voiced by representatives of Trump’s entourage – about Russian President Vladimir Putin’s alleged interest in ending the war.
As a reminder, US President’s Special Representative for the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, stated that the US intends to achieve a resolution to Russia’s war against Ukraine by the end of 2025.
US President Donald Trump has said he wants to bring Vladimir Putin and Volodymyr Zelensky to the negotiating table to reach a peace deal to end the war in Ukraine. He has stressed that both sides bear responsibility for the conflict and has warned of the possibility of “economic war” against Russia if progress is not made.
