The US is considering a policy of separating four countries from the EU: which states are in question?
The US presidential administration plans to increase its influence in Europe by promoting the idea of Austria, Hungary, Italy and Poland leaving the European Union. A previously unknown full version of the National Security Strategy outlines Washington’s intentions to focus on cooperation with individual governments and political forces in Europe.
This is reported by Defense One .
The full, unpublished version of the US National Security Strategy outlines an approach that involves abandoning traditional formats of cooperation with Europe. The document proposes forming partnerships with individual countries that, in the opinion of the authors of the strategy, share similar values and political positions.
The material notes that the US administration views Austria, Hungary, Italy and Poland as states with which it is necessary to work more closely, with the aim of gradually distancing them from the European Union. The authors of the document explain this by the desire to change the balance of power within Europe.
“We must work with these countries to distance them from the European Union,” the strategy, quoted by Defense One journalists, states.
The document emphasizes the importance of supporting political parties, movements, and leaders who advocate the preservation of traditional values, strengthening national sovereignty, and a skeptical attitude towards integration processes in the EU.
The article also mentions that the strategy envisages the formation of a new international format “Core 5” (C5), which should include the United States, China, Russia, India and Japan. The idea is to create an alternative to existing political and economic associations.
“Hegemony was a wrong aspiration and could not be achieved,” the journalists quote from the full version of the document.
After the release of the excerpt from the strategy, the White House denied that any version of the document existed other than the one already released. An administration spokeswoman said that other versions were “fiction” and did not reflect the official position.
“Any other so-called versions are being leaked by people far from the president,” said a White House spokeswoman quoted by journalists.
By the way, the European Commission has prepared a document proposing to change the mechanism for adopting sanctions against Russia. It involves moving from the principle of unanimity to qualified majority voting in order to avoid blocking by Hungary.
As a reminder, US President Donald Trump has set conditions for the European Union that diplomats consider to be deliberately unfeasible, in order not to impose tough sanctions against Russia himself.
