The United States plans to take on only a “minimal” role in providing security guarantees to Ukraine.
This was stated by US Deputy Secretary of Defense for Policy Elbridge Colby during a meeting with representatives of Great Britain, France, Germany and Finland, writes Politico.
“Initially, it becomes clear that it is Europe that will act on the ground. The US is not fully committed to anything,” Colby said.
Another source noted: “I don’t know what this gives us… We’re practically back to where we were in the spring with the coalition of the willing.”
A European official, commenting to The Telegraph, added: “It seems like it’s all up to us.”
Recall, United States Vice President J.D. Vance stated that European states should bear most of the costs associated with providing security guarantees for Ukraine.
By the way, European countries want the US to deploy American fighter jets in Romania as part of security guarantees for Ukraine.
