The US is sharply increasing the production of missiles, including the Tomahawk cruise missile, as well as anti-aircraft and aviation ammunition, which are used or may be used by the Ukrainian Defense Forces.
This is reported by Defense Express.
The American company Raytheon has signed five framework agreements with the Pentagon that provide for a significant increase in the production of missiles. These are weapons models that are already used by the armies of NATO countries and US partners.
According to the agreements, the production of Tomahawk cruise missiles is planned to be increased to more than 1,000 units per year. For comparison, the United States currently produces about 50 such missiles each year.
In addition, Raytheon intends to produce at least 1,900 AIM-120 AMRAAM missiles per year. These missiles are used by both fighter jets and NASAMS anti-aircraft missile systems.
The US also plans to produce more than 500 SM-6 anti-aircraft missiles per year. They are capable of intercepting complex air targets, including ballistic and hypersonic missiles.
The company noted that the production rate of most missiles will increase by 2-4 times, and for Tomahawk – immediately by about 20 times.
This decision is significant for Ukraine. The defense forces already use AIM-120 missiles as part of the NASAMS air defense system, as well as on F-16 fighters and potentially Gripen aircraft.
Although the US is not currently transferring these missiles directly to Ukraine, other countries within the PURL initiative are ordering them for the needs of the Ukrainian military, which directly affects the strengthening of air defense.
It was previously reported that Canada will transfer AIM missiles to Ukraine for air defense systems.
Recall that the US will continue to provide Ukraine with offensive weapons until a peace agreement is signed.
