US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has ordered Central Command to complete preparations for a possible resumption of large-scale combat operations against Iran. President Donald Trump has not yet made a final decision on new strikes.
This is reported by Axios, citing American officials.
According to the publication, the Pentagon directive does not contain a specific date for the start of the operation. The military was ordered to be prepared for various scenarios in the event of the White House’s decision to escalate again.
Axios notes that in the event of a resumption of large-scale hostilities, the United States could launch massive strikes on nuclear facilities, energy infrastructure, and other strategic targets in Iran .
Trump also spoke by phone with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on October 7. It was their second conversation in as many days amid rising tensions over Iran.
At the same time, the publication’s sources emphasize that a decision on a new military operation has not yet been made. Further actions will depend on Trump’s decision and the development of the situation in the Middle East.
Recall that in late August, the United States and Iran exchanged blows again after a month-long break . The American military attacked Iranian launchers, after which Tehran announced strikes on American air bases.
In addition, on September 5 , the US struck three Iranian tankers at once after they launched missiles at American ships.
