During an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council held on August 29, the United States once again threatened Russia with sanctions if the Kremlin did not move towards a peaceful settlement.

This was reported by The Guardian.

US Ambassador-Counselor John Kelly called on the Russians to stop airstrikes on Ukrainian cities, stressing that they question “the seriousness of Russia’s pursuit of peace.”

According to him, if the war between Ukraine and Russia continues, the US may impose sanctions on Moscow.

Kelly added that Russian dictator Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky should agree to meet.

However, as the publication notes, despite months of diplomatic work, the Russian leader has repeatedly ignored calls to cease hostilities, and the Trump administration has never taken “tangible steps.”

As a reminder, on August 29, at the request of Ukraine, an emergency meeting of the United Nations Security Council was convened . It discussed the massive Russian attack carried out on August 28, during which 25 people died.

As you know, Trump recently stated that it will become clear within the next two weeks whether peace can be achieved in Ukraine . If this does not happen, he warned of the possibility of finding “another approach” to resolving the war.

By the way, Trump said that the Russian dictator’s reluctance to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky would have “serious consequences” for Russia.
