Washington proposed dividing the management of the Zaporizhzhia NPP, which is located in the occupied territory, into three parts – between Ukraine, the United States, and Russia.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated this during a meeting with journalists, RBC-Ukraine reports .
He noted that the US considers this a compromise. However, in his opinion, such a proposal is unfair. Zelensky stressed that the Zheleznodorozhny NPP belongs to Ukraine.
“The Russians definitely think this is ‘their station’ because they occupied it. They don’t recognize any rules or law,” the president said.
According to him, Washington is convinced that the station should work and it should be shared. However, Zelensky stressed that this issue is “multi-layered.”
In particular, the difficulties lie not only in electricity and money, but also in the lack of access to the station, as it is still occupied.
“The issue is that it is still militarized. The issue is that it is in a dangerous situation. The issue is that our team, our people are working there and must work,” the head of state noted.
Because the ZNPP is currently not operating at full capacity, there are few people working there. The President drew attention to the fact that it is necessary to determine the place of residence of Ukrainian specialists.
“Where will they live? These are many different questions today. Questions that also need to be coordinated with the IAEA. The question is, who will now restore the station, for example? Because a lot of money needs to be invested there,” he explained.
In addition, it will be necessary to restore the dam destroyed by the Russians, which is located in the temporarily occupied territories.
As a reminder, the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant was under threat of a blackout after losing power to one of its two external power transmission lines on November 14 at 4:18 p.m.
Earlier, a local ceasefire came into effect near the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) , necessary to repair a damaged power line.
