The US prosecutor who investigated cases against Trump’s opponents has resigned.

In the United States, Federal Prosecutor Joseph DiGenova has resigned. He was investigating cases against American officials whom President Donald Trump considers his political opponents.

One of the key areas of DiGen’s work was cases against former US officials who alleged Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election and accused Trump of storing classified documents at his Mar-a-Lago residence.

Before his appointment, DiGenova worked as a lawyer and publicly petitioned then-US Attorney General Pam Bondi to appoint him as a federal prosecutor. He claimed that Trump was the victim of a conspiracy by US intelligence officials.

After his appointment, Dijen was tasked with investigating possible conspiracies against the president. Among the people whose cases came under his scrutiny were former special counsel Jack Smith, former CIA Director John Brennan, and former FBI Director James Comey.

Reuters notes that DiGenova’s investigations were part of a broader campaign by the US Justice Department against people Trump considers his opponents.

The reasons for the resignation have not been officially clarified. However, The Guardian speculates that it may be related to the pace of investigations—cases against the president’s opponents may have progressed more slowly than expected.

“Sometimes people want things done faster than you can. Sometimes it takes a long time to do good things, and all you can do is do your best,” DiGenova said.
