The White House is monitoring reports of a possible case of plague in Russia and quarantine measures introduced after the death of an employee of the anti-plague institute in the Irkutsk region.

According to the official, the White House is “aware of the situation, monitoring the outbreak, and evaluating possible options for action.”

This is about the death of 28-year-old Daria Shipilova , an employee of the Irkutsk Anti-Plague Research Institute.

After her death, quarantine measures were introduced in the region, and about 200 people who may have come into contact with her were placed under medical observation.

At the same time, the Russian authorities have not officially confirmed that Shipilova was infected with the plague.

According to Russian media reports, one version is that she may have broken a test tube containing the pneumonic plague pathogen in the laboratory on September 25. However, this version has not been officially confirmed.

It is also reported that several medical facilities in Irkutsk have been closed for quarantine, and a mask regime has been introduced at one of the enterprises in Shelekhov.

A possible outbreak of plague was previously reported in the Irkutsk region . After the death of an employee of the anti-plague institute, some of the contact persons were placed under medical supervision, but the Russian authorities have not officially confirmed the diagnosis of plague.
