The US Senate has officially begun debate on “hellish sanctions” against Russia
The US Senate has begun debates on a bill on a new package of sanctions against Russia and Iran. The document provides, in particular, for a 500% tariff on imports of Russian energy resources and coal into the US.
This is reported by journalist Alex Raufoglu.
The bill also provides for the possibility of introducing secondary duties of 100% for countries that purchase Russian oil and gas or help circumvent sanction restrictions.
According to the correspondent, the final vote on the document could take place as early as August 7.
The proposed sanctions could last for five years. Their aim is to increase economic pressure on Russia and limit Moscow’s ability to finance the war.
Recall that Democratic US Congressmen Don Baier and Brad Schneider opposed the bill on the so-called “hell” sanctions against Russia . At the same time, they stated that they continue to support sanctions pressure on Russia and aid to Ukraine.
It was previously reported that a bipartisan bill to strengthen sanctions against Russia, developed by Senator Lindsey Graham, has already received the support of 61 US senators.
