Two senators called on the United States to allocate more than $50 billion in aid to Ukraine, which will be paid out over the next two years.
This was reported in The Hill.
Two senators from the Democratic and Republican parties have introduced a bill that would provide tens of billions of dollars in aid to Ukraine over two years.
The document was introduced by senators:
- Gene Shaheen – member of the Committee on Foreign Relations;
- Lisa Murkowski is a member of the Appropriations Committee.
The total cost of the bill is over $50 billion.
The bill came after a US Senate committee introduced a defense funding bill that would provide $1 billion in military aid to Ukraine.
“Passage of the bill will face great difficulties in the Republican-controlled Congress, where GOP leaders in the House and Senate follow Trump’s opinion on which bill will be considered,” The Hill notes.
Shaheen and Murkowski present their bill as giving Trump additional tools to force Putin to the negotiating table.
This bill includes:
- using interest earned from frozen Russian assets in the US to finance Ukraine;
- sending “seized”, “illegal” weapons to Ukraine or using these weapons to finance military equipment for Ukraine;
- Priority acquisition of American weapons by US allies with subsequent shipment to Ukraine.
By the way, on July 8, the United States decided to resume military assistance to Ukraine , in particular, to provide a new batch of defensive weapons.
As a reminder, the United States of America temporarily suspended the supply of some anti-aircraft missiles and precision ammunition to Ukraine due to concerns about the level of its own defense reserves.
As reported, after reports of the suspension of the supply of some military aid to Ukraine, the Pentagon assured that Washington continues to work on solutions. In addition, the US State Department assured that they did not stop all arms supplies to Ukraine, and the Pentagon’s decision made the day before is just one situation.
