US President Donald Trump’s special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner demanded that Ukraine cease attacks on Russian oil refineries. According to media reports, they threatened to deprive Kyiv of US intelligence if the attacks continued.

Axios reports this, citing a Ukrainian source.

According to the source, during negotiations in Miami on October 9, Witkoff and Kushner warned the Ukrainian side that the transfer of intelligence information could be stopped if Ukraine continued to attack Russian refineries.

American officials also informed Ukrainians of Trump’s planned conversation with Russian leader Vladimir Putin regarding diesel fuel supplies. According to a Ukrainian official, the US president decided to move forward after his calls for non-targeting of oil infrastructure went unanswered.

At the same time, a US official refuted this interpretation of the situation. He stated that attacks on Russian oil refineries harm not only Russia but also the United States. The American official also accused Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy of the strikes on the refineries potentially worsening Kyiv’s relations with Trump.

According to Axios, Zelenskyy stated his willingness to stop attacks on Russian oil refineries on the condition that Russia stops attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure.

However, Trump insisted that Kyiv halt the strikes unilaterally. The American president believed that Ukraine’s attacks on Russian oil refineries were not equivalent to Russia’s strikes on the Ukrainian power grid.

Ukrainian President VolodymyrZelenskyy previously announced that the Ukrainian delegation would hold talks with the United States on October 9 and 10. At the same time, he called on Washington to increase economic pressure on Russia rather than discuss future cooperation.

US President Donald Trump also announced an agreement with Russian President Vladimir Putin to supply Russian diesel fuel to the American and global markets. He stated that Russia would immediately supply over 300,000 tons of the fuel, followed by several million more tons.
