The UN Security Council held an open briefing on Russia’s war against Ukraine. The meeting participants stressed that humanitarian, human and cultural losses continue to grow, and that an end to the war requires a ceasefire and intensified diplomatic efforts.

This was announced during a meeting of the UN Security Council.

US representative Dan Negrea said that Russia should move to real negotiations, as time is not on Moscow’s side.

“Russia must make a deal. Time is not on Moscow’s side,” the US representative said, adding that Washington continues to support Ukraine.

According to him, Russia suffers significant losses on the front every month, and its economic situation remains difficult. Negrea emphasized that only diplomacy and negotiations can stop the war.

“Diplomacy and negotiations, not further bloodshed, are the only answer,” he noted.

The briefing also discussed the Russian attack on the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra. The Ukrainian side stated that the Russian Federation continues to attack civilian objects and cultural heritage.

Polish Ambassador Krzysztof Maria Szczerski stated that Russia acts on the principle of destroying what it cannot capture.

Meanwhile, Russia’s UN representative Anna Yevstigneeva said that Russian troops allegedly only struck military targets. She also denied the attack on the Assumption Cathedral and said that the debris at the scene was a “prop.”
