US President Donald Trump has said he no longer plans to involve Kurdish groups in the operation in Iran. The decision was made in order not to complicate the military situation and avoid casualties among the Kurds.

This was reported by the White House press service .

“We’re no longer looking at the Kurds getting involved. We’re very friendly with the Kurds, as you know, but we don’t want to make the war any more complicated than it already is. I’ve ruled that out. We don’t want the Kurds coming in. I don’t want the Kurds to suffer, to die. They’re willing to get involved, but I told them I don’t want that,” Trump said while speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One.

His statement came amid reports of concerns among Kurds in Iran about cooperating with the U.S. Syrian Kurds have warned their Iranian compatriots against allying with the Americans, citing their own negative experiences.

As you know, the Kurds are a 40 million-strong people divided between Turkey, Iraq, Iran and Syria. Iraqi Kurdistan has a status of broad autonomy within federal Iraq, while Iranian Kurdistan has no political autonomy or its own government.

Syrian Kurdish groups joined forces with the United States to fight ISIS more than a decade ago, creating a semi-autonomous zone in the captured territories. However, the new Syrian army, led by President Ahmed al-Sharaa, has pushed the Kurdish forces out of Aleppo and most of the northern regions.

A Reuters source said Kurdish leaders fear being “betrayed” and have requested guarantees from the US, without specifying what kind.

“Syrian Kurds called on the US to intervene and felt betrayed when Washington instead called on them to unite with Shaaraa forces,” analysts noted.

It was previously reported that US President Donald Trump said he supports a possible offensive by Kurdish groups on Iranian territory.

The day before, the US reported that “thousands of Iraqi Kurds” had launched a ground offensive in western Iran , but there are no details yet about the scale of the operation, the exact areas, or the sides of the fighting.

At the same time, it became known that the US is likely providing weapons to Kurdish groups in Iran in order to intensify internal conflicts in the country.
