The Verkhovna Rada approved the new composition of the Cabinet of Ministers: who joined the government

The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has approved the new composition of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine. This concerns the adoption of the Resolution on the formation of the composition of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine and the dismissal of retired members of the Cabinet of Ministers (No. 15415). 264 people’s deputies voted for this decision.

This was announced by the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada, Ruslan Stefanchuk.

264 MPs voted for the relevant decision. 15 MPs spoke against, 19 abstained, and another 20 did not vote.

The document received the greatest support from the Servant of the People faction — 193 votes. Also voting “for” were 16 deputies from the Platform for Life and Peace group, 14 from the Restoration of Ukraine , 14 from the For the Future , and 17 from the Trust deputy group.

Before that, the Verkhovna Rada appointed Serhiy Koretsky as Prime Minister of Ukraine. The corresponding decision was supported by 289 people’s deputies .

According to the resolution, the new composition of the Cabinet of Ministers includes:

    • Denys Shmyhal — First Deputy Prime Minister — Minister of Energy;
    • Tetyana Berezhna — Deputy Prime Minister for Humanitarian Policy — Minister of Culture;
    • Vsevolod Chentsov — Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration;
    • Vitaliy Bezgin — Minister of Communities, Territories and Internally Displaced Persons;
    • Matviy Bidny — Minister of Youth and Sports;
    • Andriy Butenko — Minister of Education and Science;
    • Ivan Vyhivskyi — Minister of Internal Affairs;
    • Taras Vysotsky — Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food;
    • Mykola Kalashnyk — Minister of Reconstruction, Infrastructure and Transport;
    • Vitaly Kim — Minister of Veterans Affairs;
    • Oleksandr Kravchenko — Minister of Economy and Environment;
    • Viktor Lyashko — Minister of Health;
    • Serhiy Marchenko — Minister of Finance;
    • Denys Maslov — Minister of Justice;
    • Denys Ulyutin — Minister of Social Policy, Family and Unity;
    • Oksana Ferchuk is the Minister of Digital Transformation.

At the same time, the positions of Minister of Defense, Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Head of the Security Service of Ukraine were not considered during this vote.

It was previously reported that the appointment of a new Minister of Defense, Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Head of the Security Service of Ukraine may be postponed until the next meeting of the Verkhovna Rada, scheduled for August 18 .

However, later, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy instructed Yevheniy Khmara to temporarily act as Minister of Defense and announced that he would submit his candidacy to the Verkhovna Rada for appointment to this position.

Also, the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Humanitarian and Information Policy, Mykyta Poturayev, announced that he is resigning from his duties as a People’s Deputy early. He has already submitted a corresponding application to the Speaker of the Parliament.

In addition, European Commissioner for Defense and Space Andrius Kubilius called the resignation of Mykhailo Fedorov from the position of Minister of Defense of Ukraine a “big surprise.”

The European Solidarity faction called on Prime Minister candidate Serhiy Koretsky to return Mykhailo Fedorov to the new government and entrust him with security and defense issues.

Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrsky thanked Mykhailo Fedorov for his work as Minister of Defense of Ukraine and wished him continued service in the Ukrainian team.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy decided to dismiss Mykhailo Fedorov from the position of Minister of Defense due to a long-standing conflict with the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrsky .

The Commander of the Joint Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Mykhailo Drapatiy, reacted to the resignation of Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov , emphasizing that the changes initiated in the army should continue regardless of personnel decisions.

Also on Thursday, July 16, rallies were held in a number of Ukrainian cities in support of former Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov . People took to the streets after the decision to dismiss him, calling on the authorities to reconsider the personnel changes.
