The Verkhovna Rada recommends the first reading of the draft on the regulation of the telegram

The Verkhovna Rada Committee on Humanitarian and Information Policy recommended for first reading a draft on regulating the activities of information sharing platforms, including Telegram.

The corresponding decision was made during a committee meeting on Wednesday, March 25.

According to People’s Deputy Mykola Kniazhytskyi, who is the author of the bill, through Telegram there is a risk of ordering terrorist acts, drug trafficking, and spreading fakes against the Ukrainian state.

“But not only in tg (Telegram – ed.). We see the danger in many countries of TikTok. But unlike totalitarian countries, we do not want to restrict anyone,” he explained.

Previously, Kniazhytskyi stated that deputies will soon submit draft law No. 11115 to the parliamentary hall , and they may also vote for it in the first reading.

He explained that the bill notes that all platforms must have transparency in ownership and funding.
