The Verkhovna Rada supported in the first reading amendments to the 2026 state budget, which provide for a significant increase in spending on the army, weapons, and payments to the military.

This was reported by the Ministry of Finance of Ukraine.

The Ministry of Finance explained that the budget revision is related to financial support from the European Union of 45 billion euros.

After the changes, spending on the security and defense sector is planned to increase by UAH 1.56 trillion. In total, they want to allocate more than UAH 4.3 trillion to defense.

The largest amount of funds was allocated for the purchase and repair of weapons, military equipment, and ammunition – over 2.2 trillion UAH.

Another 1.4 trillion UAH is planned to be spent on financial support for military personnel.

The bill also provides for the transfer of military levies to a special fund of the state budget for payments to the military and additional financing of the defense-industrial complex.

Separately, they want to add another UAH 40 billion to the reserve fund to eliminate the consequences of the war and other urgent expenses.

As previously reported, the Verkhovna Rada ratified an agreement on Ukraine receiving a loan of 90 billion euros from the European Union.

Let us remind you that the European Union is preparing to provide Ukraine with a loan of 90 billion euros. The corresponding memorandum has already been signed, and Kyiv may receive the first tranche as early as June.
