The virus is gaining momentum again: the first death from COVID-19 in a long time was recorded in the Lviv region

The Lviv region has recorded its first coronavirus death in a long time in the new season. The disease is again actively spreading in the region, and doctors warn that COVID-19 poses a particular danger to people with chronic diseases and weakened immunity.

The head of the Lviv Regional Center for Disease Control and Prevention, Natalia Ivanchenko-Timko, reported that a man about 60 years old who had a significant number of concomitant diseases died.

“In most patients, the course of coronavirus is relatively mild, but people with chronic pathologies face serious complications,” Ivanchenko-Timko noted.

Experts are awaiting results from the Kyiv laboratory to confirm which strain of the virus is circulating in the Lviv region. This will help understand the level of its danger and the speed of its spread.

Last week, 192 cases of coronavirus infection were laboratory-confirmed in the region, including 45 in children. Due to the deterioration of the condition, 49 patients had to be hospitalized.

Doctors urge residents of the region to be attentive to their health, follow basic anti-epidemic rules, and people at risk should consult a doctor at the first symptoms, if necessary.

Recall that in Ukraine, a case of the Omicron coronavirus subvariant called Nimbus and Stratus was detected for the first time .

Earlier , Kyiv recorded a rapid increase in hospitalizations due to COVID-19 . In a month, the number of patients in hospitals increased more than fourfold, a quarter of them children.

It is worth adding that22 countries around the world have recorded the rapid spread of a new variant of COVID-19 . It has already been called “Nimbus”.
