Russian propagandists use foreign commentators as “international experts” to advance their narratives.
This was reported by the Center for Countering Disinformation.
The Russians attract individuals whose professional activities or backgrounds do not allow them to be unequivocally called experts in the topics they comment on.
“Often, such speakers do not provide verified evidence for their claims or voice assessments that are consonant with Russian propaganda,” the CPR noted.
Among the Russian “international experts” are Armando Mema, who works as a plumber and is considered by propagandists to be a “financial expert”; Alain Soral, a journalist who was prosecuted in France for inciting hatred and denying the Holocaust, who publicly supports Putin; Mateusz Piskorski, accused of spying for Russia; and Andrea Lucidi, an Italian media figure with Russian citizenship who denies the mass killings in Bucha.
The Center for Countering Disinformation explained that Russian propaganda involves “experts” to create the appearance of an “alternative position” in Western countries and to reinforce information messages beneficial to the Kremlin.
