On Saturday, June 28, Ukrainian writer and dissident Ihor Kalynets died in Lviv.

This was announced by Lviv Mayor Andriy Sadovyi.

It is noted that Ihor Kalynets passed away at the age of 86. He was an honorary citizen of the city of Lviv, a laureate of the Taras Shevchenko National Prize of Ukraine, and a political prisoner of Soviet camps.

“Together with Iryna Kalynets, they became the voice of Ukrainian dignity in the darkest times. Bright memory. Sincere condolences to family and friends. Lviv mourns,” Sadovyi wrote.

The writer’s death was also confirmed by his daughter Dzvinka Kalynets-Mamchur.
