Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported holding an important phone call with US President Donald Trump, following the visit of Trump’s special representative Steve Witkoff to Moscow. Both leaders reaffirmed a shared position: the war must end honestly and with full respect for Ukraine’s sovereignty.

He stated this in Telegram.

During a visit to the combat zone in Ukraine’s Sumy region, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a telephone conversation with US President Donald Trump. The call followed the recent diplomatic visit of US Special Representative Steve Witkoff to Moscow and served as a continuation of high-level international contacts.

Zelenskyy emphasized that the position of Ukraine and its partners remains firm: the war must come to an end, and it must end in a way that is honest and just. European leaders also took part in the dialogue, and the Ukrainian president expressed his sincere gratitude for their continued support.

“We discussed the messages conveyed in Moscow. Ukraine will uphold its sovereignty. What we all need is a lasting and credible peace,” Zelenskyy said.

He added that responsibility for resolving the conflict lies with Russia, the country that initiated the war. Zelenskyy also thanked all international partners for standing with the Ukrainian people during this difficult period.

By the way, US President Donald Trump announced progress in negotiations with Russia to end the war in Ukraine. According to him, his special envoy Steve Witkoff met with Vladimir Putin, after which consultations with European allies began.

By the way, today, August 6, US President’s special representative Steve Witkoff arrived in Russia, where he held talks with Vladimir Putin. The Kremlin said that the parties discussed the situation in Ukraine and possible areas of strategic cooperation between Moscow and Washington. The meeting was called “constructive.”

Earlier, it was reported that US President Donald Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff arrived in Moscow on August 6. He was met at Vnukovo Airport by Kirill Dmitriev, Russia’s representative for investment. Later, it became known that the meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President’s special envoy Steve Witkoff in Moscow had ended.

Recall, the administration of Donald Trump has warned the Kremlin: if Vladimir Putin does not agree to a ceasefire in Ukraine by August 8, the United States will impose a new package of sanctions. The list includes a strike on the “shadow fleet”, customs restrictions, secondary sanctions, and other levers of economic pressure. Washington hopes for negotiations, but is preparing for decisive action.
