The White House is actively working on new sanctions against Russia: when will they be implemented?
Republican Majority Leader in the US Senate John Thune said that a bill on new sanctions against Russia and its allies could be considered before the August recess in Congress.
This is reported by The Hill.
Tun noted that cooperation is currently ongoing with the presidential administration and the House of Representatives to prepare the bill for a vote.
“There is significant bipartisan support in the Senate. I think the House of Representatives shares this position as well – at least I hope so. The White House is actively involved in the work,” Thune told reporters on Wednesday.
At the same time, he acknowledged that the exact timing of adoption is still unknown, but expressed optimism that this could happen in the near future.
As a reminder, US House Speaker Mike Johnson said that Putin does not want to seriously discuss peace with Ukraine. Therefore, the US should send him a signal.
As reported, Volodymyr Zelensky held a conversation in Rome with the US President’s Special Representative for Ukraine Keith Kellogg. The Ukrainian leader hopes that the Senate will advance the bill by Senators Graham and Blumenthal in the US Congress. Zelensky added that this could force Russia to think more about peace.
