The administration of US President Donald Trump plans to announce a list of government agencies where mass layoffs of civil servants will take place following the government shutdown on October 1.
CNN reported this, citing sources.
According to officials, the list could be released as early as Saturday or Sunday, October 4. The U.S. administration is currently finalizing the cuts process. According to journalists, the document was largely prepared by the White House Office of Management and Budget, along with relevant agencies.
President Trump previously met with DEA Director Russell Vought to discuss funding and staffing cuts at “certain Democratic agencies.” The president said the layoffs could be either temporary or permanent.
CNN sources clarified that the staff at risk of layoffs are primarily those in agencies responsible for diversity, equality, and inclusion policies. The White House believes that the activities of such agencies do not align with the president’s priorities.
As a reminder, the US federal government officially shuts down at midnight on October 1. This is due to the failure of attempts to continue funding for the new budget year due to deep disputes between Democrats and Republicans in Congress.
Incidentally, several planned meetings between the Ukrainian delegation and representatives of the American authorities have already been disrupted this week : US officials were asked to “stay home.”
As reported, a delegation from the National Security and Defense Council and the Ministry of Defense visited the United States to conduct technical negotiations on signing an agreement to purchase Ukrainian drones.
