The US has officially approved the Yeztugo injection, which could be a breakthrough in the fight and prevention of HIV.

This was reported in ScienceAlert.

The HIV prevention drug developed by Gilead Sciences is administered twice a year and, given its effectiveness, is a real breakthrough in the fight against the human immunodeficiency virus.

The drug’s real name is Lenacapavir, but it will be sold under the trade name Yeztugo. It has demonstrated an efficacy rate of over 99.9% in clinical trials.

Despite its effectiveness, it is likely to be expensive. A similar drug, Cabotegravir, which is injected every two months, costs tens of thousands of dollars each year and is still not widely available.

It is expected that the starting price of Yeztugo in the US could reach 25 thousand per year, although in preventive use it should be lower than 39 thousand – the current cost of a course of treatment with Lenacapavir.

The drug’s manufacturer, Gilead, signed agreements with six pharmaceutical companies in October 2025 to manufacture and distribute the drug in 120 countries around the world.

In addition, the company has agreed with the US PEPFAR program to supply doses for two million people.

Earlier in Asia, new outbreaks of COVID-19 began to be recorded in China, Singapore, and other countries in the region .
