A grand ceremony to launch the world’s largest cruise ship, the Orient Express Corinthian, took place in a French port. The 220-meter-long vessel, with a displacement of over 26,000 tons, was a joint development of the legendary Orient Express brand and the Accor hotel group.
This was reported by the Accor press service.
It is noted that the ship has already been transferred to the pier for final outfitting, and the first commercial voyage is scheduled for June 2026.
The liner is designed for 110 passengers, who will be accommodated in 54 luxurious cabins. Its route will cover the most famous locations of the French and Italian Rivieras, as well as the Mediterranean and Adriatic Seas.
The Orient Express Corinthian’s technological highlight is its three unique 100-meter-tall ballester masts. They can rotate and tilt to make the most of the wind, while the 16,146 square feet of sails allow the ship to be powered entirely by renewable energy. When needed, a hybrid LNG-powered system is used.
Another innovation is artificial intelligence to detect objects in the water and avoid collisions with marine mammals. The vessel is also equipped with a dynamic positioning system, which allows it to hold its position without using an anchor to avoid damaging the seabed.
The BIO-SEA system, which works without chemicals and only with the help of ultraviolet radiation, is used for ecological ballast water treatment. Similar technologies will be implemented on the second ship in the series, Orient Express Silencieux, which is scheduled to be launched in the summer of 2027.
