The year will begin with a powerful magnetic storm: dangerous days for health and technology

The beginning of 2026 was marked by increased geomagnetic activity for the Earth – the planet was covered by a weak magnetic storm, which will persist in the coming days.
This is stated in a statement by the British Geological Survey.
According to experts, on January 2 and 3, the Earth’s magnetic field will be affected by a stream of charged particles formed as a result of a coronal mass ejection on the Sun on December 31. It is this process that causes an increase in geomagnetic oscillations at the beginning of the year.
The forecast indicates periods of moderate and stormy activity of the G1 level, and also does not exclude short-term intensification of the magnetic storm to the G3 level. Such storms are classified as strong and occur during intense solar flares, when a significant amount of solar plasma reaches the Earth.
Geomagnetic disturbances can cause temporary disruptions to satellite systems, radio communications, and energy infrastructure. In addition, bright auroras can appear in northern latitudes, sometimes even in regions where this phenomenon rarely occurs.
G3-level magnetic storms can also affect people’s well-being, causing headaches, fatigue, and fluctuations in blood pressure. Experts advise avoiding excessive exertion, getting more rest, and monitoring space weather forecasts on such days.
