Putin’s Puppet Show: The Fake Scenes in Kupyansk and Pokrovsk

Why is Putin lying about the encirclement in Kupyansk and Pokrovsk? This is, first and foremost, a blatant replay of history, echoing the tens of thousands allegedly surrounded in the Kursk region. Back then, even Trump believed it. But this time, it simply won’t happen.

• Petrels, Poseidons, the alleged encirclement in Kupyansk, and other similar stories are a theater for two actors: Trump and Xi, who on Thursday will discuss Russia—without Russia.

• Putin’s greatest fear is Xi’s ambiguous position, who, under certain circumstances (as I noted yesterday), might at some point agree to a ceasefire along the front line.

• It’s still unclear how all this hysteria and mythical entourage will help Xi refuse to discuss the issue with Trump. The only logical explanation is that if nothing is invented or dramatized, the probability of China accepting the U.S. proposal is higher than it is now, while Putin continues to stage his pseudo-madness.

• In short, Putin is demonstrating extraordinary external weakness, which will inevitably be offset by an internal tightening of the screws.

• Amid all this, we cannot rule out the possibility that Putin actually believes in these mythical encirclements. This may not be mere theater for the public, but a genuine conviction. Six months ago, we saw how he sincerely believed the front would collapse by autumn. In other words, there is a high probability that he is gradually losing touch with reality. If so, this will reach the Russian elite with a delay of three to six months.

As a reminder, on October 29, Russian dictator Vladimir Putin announced the alleged encirclement of Ukrainian troops in Pokrovsk and Kupyansk, after which he cynically suggested “ceasing hostilities” so that journalists could verify the “truthfulness” of his claims.

The Armed Forces of Ukraine later denied Putin’s statements about the alleged encirclement of Kupyansk by Russian troops. The command emphasizes that the Kremlin dictator is repeating false statements by his generals, which do not correspond to the real situation on the front.

At the same time, the enemy continues to gradually penetrate Pokrovsk, increasing its presence with infantry units and increasing pressure on Ukrainian positions. At the same time, the enemy is trying to surround the city and advance to the northwest and north of the agglomeration. Russian troops are also actively using drones and artillery to control the logistics of Ukrainian troops and search for ways to infiltrate.
